How can we bring ancient masterpieces back to life? With the Akhenaton project, we demonstrated how mixed reality can become a unique tool to preserve and enhance cultural heritage.
In collaboration with Archéovision (CNRS) and Archéotransfert, we created the world’s first polychrome holographic restitution. Presented in Bordeaux during the symposium “Restituer les couleurs”, this groundbreaking experience allowed audiences to rediscover an ancient artifact in its original richness, showcasing pigments, retouches, and restorations accumulated over centuries.
The ambition was clear: to develop a new approach to cultural mediation, revealing the hidden memory of archaeological objects and making it accessible to everyone.
The Akhenaton project illustrates how mixed reality can go beyond technology itself to become a powerful tool for cultural innovation:
Thanks to HoloLens, visitors and researchers can observe the artifact from multiple perspectives : scientific, historical, and emotional. The experience takes them back in time, offering a new way to encounter heritage directly within the museum.
Since Akhenaton, HoloForge has continued to support cultural institutions, museums, and research centers in their efforts to share and showcase heritage. Our mission is to:
With Akhenaton, we paved the way for a new vision of heritage: one where mixed reality doesn’t replace the past but brings it back to life in vibrant color.
